The
Dance of Morgiana
Belly Dance for any Occasion
While in college, a friend introduced Kristi to the ideas of Ruth St. Denis, and the philosophy that dance can be a direct expression of the soul. Inspired to share this expression with audiences, Kristi studied and developed a unique improvisational style of dance all her own.
In 2001, she began working with The Daring Douglasses as a Fire Artist and was exposed to Middle Eastern Belly Dance for the first time. Seeing the beauty of the movement and sensing how the spirit of the dancers related to her own philosophy, Kristi began studying various forms of Belly Dance at Dance Alloy in Pittsburgh.
As she honed her skill in Egyptian Belly Dance, as well as her interactive skills, Kristi took the name of Morgiana, a clever servant girl featured in the Arabian Nights tales of Ali Baba. Since then, she has performed in cafes and lounges such as the Sphinx Café and the Rhythm House.
As Morgiana, she dances to modern, upbeat Egyptian music, and thrives in a restaurant, lounge, or party setting where she is able to interact with and enthrall customers on a personal level. She is comfortable dancing alone or with other dancers, and can incorporate props such as veil or candles to suit the mood of the occasion. Her improvisational style is flexible to any space or situation, and is appropriate for any audience, whether she is making a special guest appearance or performing dance sets throughout the course of an evening.
